General Lordisimo’s Apocalypse

I hate computers. This may seem like a weird thing to say seeing as I am using a computer to make posts on my blog but it is really okay. I hate this computer too. Here is the reason why I hate computers more today than I probably did a year ago. Because at my current job I have to help students fix various problems on their personal computers. You see I work at a library (a major kick ass job full of destruction) and a year ago our library merged with the IT department and my job title changed and suddenly I have a job in which I am not just doing the generally awesome library shit but now must also help various people with their computer problems. For starts I don’t really know a hell of a lot about computers (maybe more then some folks but I am far from a computer geek). Not knowing a lot about computers makes it hard for me to help people with their problems which frustrates me because I like to be helpful at my job (usually). The second big problem is that I really could care less about most people’s computer problems. I know I should care because it is my job to care but I don’t. I feel like people are all around entirely too dependent on their computers (and cell phones of which I do not have thank you very much). Today at work there seemed to be an excess of computer problems and I really didn’t want to deal with any of them. I got even more pissed off because several of the problems were the student’s own fault and poor planning, like needing to get a file emailed at the last minute when they knew that their computer still hadn’t been set up for the shool’s network (a process which can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to over an hour — this person took over an hour). Now I have no problem asking for help from the real techy guys who work for the IT and I very often do. But still people seem to think that their poor planning constitutes that I have to drop all my other duties at the library and devote myself to them entirely. I tell you I was very close to assulting one or two people today with their own computers (thus giving me double the pleasure of beating an asshole senseless and destroying their goddamn computer at the same time). Somehow I made it through the day and nobody go hurt. Unfortunately I spend a lot of time working at the library and the most annoying thing about computers is that they always seem to have some problem or another. The upside? I am only working at the library for three more months. Fucking computers.
