Coffee

This morning I poured myself a travel mug of coffee as I headed out the door to go to work.  About three minutes down the road as I took a big sip of the warm energy giving beverage I suddenly thought to myself “dear god, I am a working person who needs his caffeine every morning.  I’ve become like so many other commuters and I don’t even commute, I only have a ten minute drive to work.”  Regardless, I love my coffee, which in itself seems weird to me.  I think I first tried coffee at regular intervals in early high school but back then I couldn’t get into it (also the caffeine affected me a lot more back in those days).  I distinctly remember in junior or senior year of high school mixing coffee and hot chocolate together in the morning because the flavor was easier to tolerate at the time.   The path to actually drinking coffee and enjoying it really took off in college.  There was a little dinner like restaurant across the river from my campus called Annie’s Overflow and I used to go there on the weekend and always get coffee with my breakfast.  Also our student union building had a small coffee shop that served Green Mountain Coffee and coming from the Green Mountain State I wanted to support our local roast.  By senior year drinking coffee was a regular thing for me, maybe not every day but quite often.  Since I’ve been down here in Greenville hardly a day has gone by when I haven’t gotten my coffee fix at some time, some days is up to two or three cups, though one is usually enough.  Personally I like my coffee a bit darker, just enough half & half to cool it down some, with just enough sugar to make it slightly sweet.  My favorite coffee is hazelnut flavored, especially the Green Mountain Coffee’s hazelnut.  I refuse decaf on all occasions even if it is late at night, to me part of the whole point of drinking coffee is to get the buzz.  I find few downsides to coffee besides that I often burn my mouth on it (the whole patience thing, I’ve really got to work on it) and that it makes me have to piss like a racehorse.  Of course coffee isn’t my sole intake of caffeine.  I drink Coke like a champ.  I love tea (hot no sugar/ iced sweet as fuck).  Mountain Dew is amazing.  Also I consume a large amount of chocolate.  With all the incoming caffeine I really shouldn’t be too surprised when I can’t sleep well at night.  But it is so good.

On an awesomeness note:  a Brugger’s Bagels just opened up down the street from my current abode (this is a great Burlington VT based company) and they serve only the best coffee, that of course being Green Mountain Coffee.  Not a whole lot better than coffee and a bagel for breakfast, except bacon, bacon is the ultimate breakfast experience.
