Alcohol
I like a good drink now and then (probably more often now than then, but that is just nitpicking really). As such I consider alcohol to play a formative part in my life. It has provided me with both entertainment and trouble, happiness and misery. I try to maintain a healthy relationship with alcohol, but on occasion imbibe a bit too much and regret it the next day with a pretty good hangover. Here I offer a brief primer of my views of alcohol.
Beer:
Beer is my personal favorite amongst alcoholic beverages. Not only do I greatly enjoy drinking it, but I also partake in brewing of the beverage. I enjoy all sorts of styles of beer, but in recent years have developed a preference that leans towards darker (Stouts and Porters) or hoppier (Pale Ales and IPAs). Maltier beers and styles such as the various Belgian types are still a developing preference. When I buy beer I tend to lean towards the beverages produced by smaller craft breweries as well as a handful of imports. If i choose to be cheap and buy domestic it is pretty much limited to Miller High Life or PBR.
Liquor:
When I first started drinking regularly it was with liquor instead of beer, and while I now prefer the latter over the former, I still have a strong love of a number of liquors. In recent times I have found a preference for Gin as well as a number of European anise flavored liquors (especially ouzo and absinthe. Pastis is good too). I almost always make sure I have a bottle of either Irish Whisky or Scotch available at home. Living in the south I have been working on developing my taste for bourbon. Vodka and rum are rather neutral to me, I’ll have them now and again, but rarely actively seek them out. Tequila is the one liquor I constantly find it difficult to get into, it just tastes pretty nasty to me. I generally drink my liquor with some mixer (Gin & Tonic, Whisky & Ginger, Bourbon & Coke, etc.) though I do prefer my anise liquors either straight or with a little water or ice.
Wine:
My relationship and knowledge of wine is limited at best. While I will gladly accept a glass here and there, my education of the subtle flavor difference and style preferences is lacking. The first wine I drank tended to be white, but in recent years it has been more often than not red. I know that I generally like Pinot Noir while usually caring less for Merlot. all and all wine is an area of alcohol drinking in which I could probably use some more practice and knowledge.
Well that about sums it up. At this point you have a pretty good idea of my drinking preferences. Usually just brining up the subject of beer is enough to get me started in a conversation, as I have a lot of interest in that area. If you ever want to go grab a drink let me know, I’ll probably be more than happy to join you.

Miller High Life tastes like piss, but it is a cheap ass beer and claims to be the champagne of beers so, when I want to get drunk without spending very much money I will often stoop to the low level of drinking it. Also, even though Miller High Life sucks ass it is still a hell of a lot better than Bud Light, I hate Bud Light.
A new favorite beverage I’ve begun to drink is Jameson Whiskey and Ginger Ale which is in an attempt to grow a stronger appreciation for Whiskey so that someday maybe I’ll be able to pull off some real class by ordering Scotch on the Rocks, that is a long way off though.
Another good drink is a rum and coke, but you can’t use crappy cheap rum, you have to get something good like Cruzan Diamond.
One of my goals is to someday be able to drink a clean scotch so that I can go out to dinner somewhere and order “a scotch, clean.” and feel like a bad ass as I do it. of course right now I can’t even really handle scotch on the rocks. Also I need an income where I can afford to buy scotch at all because that stuff is expensive.
Why isn’t Newcastle Brown Ale listed anywhere on this page? Well that is why I am commenting. Newcastle is delightful, perhaps I shall purchase some on my way home this evening.
thanks for this great read i enjoyed it
